Finding stuff to do during the holidays is always fun here in Kansas City. We are a larger city, and as such there is no shortage of fun activities for the whole family! Now, having little kids can be tricky for holiday cheer, but let me give you some of our favorite activities to do in and around Kansas City during the holiday season.

First thing is first, you’ll want to catch the Mayor’s tree lighting at Crown Center. This is something you don’t want to miss. The Mayor’s tree is 100ft tall and is a live Christmas tree. This is free and will be happening Nov 25th 2022. This event is held as a symbol of the Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund, which is dedicated to assisting the people of Kansas City during the holiday season. After the season is over the tree will be used to make commemorative ornaments that are sold the following year for the Christmas Tree Fund.

Of course you will also want to hit up the Ice Terrace at Crown Center too! If you like ice skating, this is the place to do it. This is a great date idea, or is super fun as a family with older kiddos.

While you are at Crown Center you MUST go see Union Station right next door! This has probably been said a million times from other people, but it really is magical. They have a large Christmas tree, and it looks stunning in the grandness of Union Station. They also have the “Holiday Reflections” exhibit, which you do have to pay for ($7+), but it is well worth that price. They also have other fun activities such as the “Holiday Express” and classic holiday movies at their theatre.

If you love Christmas lights you’ll also want to check out Powell Garden’s “Festival Of Lights” which is running from Nov 10th - Dec 30th 2022. This display has over 20 miles of lights through the beautiful gardens. It has plenty of places to take photos as well. This is outside so be sure to check the weather and dress accordingly .

One last thing. For those with small kiddos who want to see Santa, Bass Pro Shops has a free photo with Santa each year. They also set up some fun activities for the littles to do as well.

There’s no shortage of fun things to do for Christmas in Kansas City. Big or small, young or aged, Kansas City is one of the best places to be during the holiday season. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas season! And a Happy New Year!
