I know the struggle of finding a good place for photos. Everyone has their own style and their own preferences of where to shoot. Here are my top 3 places in Kansas City for portraits!
I’d like to begin with my FAVORITE place to shoot, Burr Oak Woods. This is my favorite spot for many reasons, the first being the trees! They have some of the most beautiful, tall pine trees. These trees make for some amazing photos! They also have some great fields. There is just so much diversity in landscape that you could have several shoots here and have several different looks to each. Now, I will say, as a professional Photographer you will need a permit to shoot here.
My second favorite place to shoot is Watkins Woolen Mill. Now, I know this is very far North for a lot of people, but it is 100% worth the drive. From the gorgeous buildings to the beautiful trees you just cannot go wrong taking photos here. I have been shooting at this location for almost a decade, and it is STILL one of my favorites. Watkins mill is especially beautiful in the Fall as the leaves are turning all sorts of colors.
My third, and final pick for my top 3 is Smithville Lake. For those of you wanting a water background, Smithville Lake is the place for you! Golden Hour on the lake is just INCREDIBLE! Smithville Lake offers such a wide variety of places to shoot. I love the grassy picnic areas and beautiful beaches. There are also plenty of docks to choose from.
There are tons of other amazing places to take photos at in the Kansas City area, these are just a few of them. Kansas City has some of the best places for portraits, and even more of the best Photographers! No matter where you end up going you will have a beautiful backdrop to highlight you and your family.
